    EG Civic Proportioning valve

    Hey All,

a while ago I converted my wife's EG sedan to rear discs, but never got around to replacing the proportioning valve.

I recently bought one that was off an Integra Type R (DC2)

The marking on the one on the EG says 30 30 (from what I can see, but the second number could be 20)

The ITR one has 30 40 on it

Does anyone have a list of the numbers found on these valves and what each mean? I don't want to swap over yet until I confirm I have the right one

the EG originally had drums so I am sure the prop valve is a drum brake rear one.

    Thanks

    Tseesinn

you don't need to change the Proportioning valve.
3030 means there is even amount of brake fluid to rear and front brakes until near lock when it becomes more to the front (to prevent the rear from locking up)

the 30 40 would mean more brake fluid to the front at near lockup and less at the rear than the 3030.

If you find the rears locking up easily under heavy braking then change to the type R.

There's more info on www.honda-tech.com, somewhere.

    Nick.

PS. I think a 4040 valve is what you need.

So does this mean I didnt get what I paid for ? as mine looks identical to the one already on my wifes EG

also found this info on the other thread, ( Thanks ND55 for pointing that out)

here is some proportioning valve info I've cut & pasted from elsewhere.
AFAIK Honda still used the prop. valve naming convention till recently.

1725 valve (88-91 CRX with rear drums)
2040 valve (90-91 CRX Si) - used with 9.5" front brakes matched with rear discs.
    3030 - 9.5"(small) - rear drum
3040 valve (91 EF hatch) - used with 9.5" front brakes and rear discs
4040 valve (90-93 Integra) - used with 10.3" front brakes matched with rear discs.
3540 valve (90-91 Civic Ex) - used with 10.3" front brakes matched with rear drums.

I have also noticed the one on the EG is leaking slightly, so will probably change it to the 30/40 one anyway and see if that makes things better. The brakes just dont seem to be what I expected after changing them over. And I have since put a brand new master cylinder in that was confirmed as being the correct one for a 4 wheel disc EG

i recent upgraded to rear disc brakes - changed brake master cyclinder - didnt change the prop valve. is 150% better in terms of feel and stopping power.

is still ABIT spongy, but overall im happy with it. before i basically had my foot to the floor before it would even begin to slow down :s

So all id have to do is upgrade to the 3040 prop valve? and should fix the problem?

Sam from shift performance was discussing this today with me. as he is going through the same thing with hes Track eg.

My guess is you've swapped in a larger master cylinder.

In this case more brake fluid is being moved for the same brake pedal movement.

It's the increased responsiveness that you are appreciating, not increased braking power.

    Nick.

Mine is definately stamped 30/40 Thats why I was asking, I am thinking I got the one of the sellers EG hatch, not the one off the Type R DC2 half he had sitting in the garage..

But if this 30/40 will do the job, then I will change it.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

    Cheers

If you slam the brakes in wet weather, your rears can lock and your rears go side ways.

Im running 30/40 with rear disc brakes with no problems with braking on the rear, so far no locking. Just take care driving.
