Thread: Oh kai

    Oh kai

    Sup..

I took my car to the garage to have the box oil changed..

Once it was up on the ramp, we where looking up at this abomination of a drain bolt.

The "once" open 1/2 drive bolt was rounded off... and shards of metal everywhere. Some **** tried before and failed...:-/

It also has sealent all on it, so it's stuck in pretty good.

So the mech tried removing the fill bolt, and again had no luck (with a huge as **** breaker bar)

His words "I don't want to break something, so i'll stop about now"

I could top up the oil through the shifter hole, but that's pointless. I want to put fresh oil into it.

Any ideas / tricks on how to remove the drain OR fill plug?

I was thinking of removing the drain plug, and finding a pump that not only pumps, but also sucks, and removing the old fluid that way.

    Ideas:

    1.Try getting a nut spot-welded to it.

    2. Get it drilled out & flush the box with oil to remove all shavings.

Welding idea seems like a good one..

But the drilling it, once its drilled, how the hell do you get the actual seized nut out?

replace the whole thing with a new box

that's the last idea, don't want a simple 20 dollar box oil change to turn into a 500 dollar exersize!

what you do justin is get your dip stick and oil cap and take it off
then you start your motor and let the oil spray out
    once that is done
    remove sump
go to any import yard wrecker and get a new sump that has a removable sump plug
    sr20 vtecs are every where
    nice and easy

Ha ha ha ha very funny,
Anyway on a more serious note, drill a hole in the centre of the damaged stud and use an "easy out" or similar bolt remover, the other thing you can do first is use a blow torch on the damaged bolt to free it up a little and it should hopefully come out.

ps. it's normally better to use impact force to remove tight bolts not a LONGER breaker bar that just increases the torque being applied, that is how bolts end up getting stripped in the first place.
also if you do drill the bolt out you will need a suction pump as mentioned above and flush out with some extra fluid.
