    Car Alarm Distance

To all the gurus here, I've got a quick question:

I've just installed a new Mongoose alarm last week and the remote doesn't seem to work outside 5 metres. Is this normal?

I took the car back to the installer but he reckons it's normal due to window tints, car angle, standard receiver length bla bla bla and didn't want to offer a solution.

Now, is it possible to increase the range by myself and how?

    Thanks in advanced!

    Get another opinion.

Ask another installers and see if you get a different response.

Well it's a standard alarm and the receiver is in the steering column.

Getting another opinion would be hard as I think there's only one other alarm specialist in my area. I'll try them anyway..

putting the antenna in a different spot would do the trick

why would you want to unlock your car from 1.5km away?
    let alone 5m?
    5m is enough isnt it?

reminds me of this comedy sketch
these 2 guys are having a comp on who can unlock their car from furthest away
the first guy presses his alarm from about 20m and nothing happend and hes like 'shit'
the second guy looks all smug and presses his alarm and his car unlocks...
and then a guy jumps in his car and drives off

long distance alarms arent all good lol

Yeah I've read all about that and tried sticking the remote on my chin, temple, forehead, ear, throat... nothing works LOL.

I've also tried sticking a foil into the remote and it doesn't work too.

Guess I might have to relocate the antenna. Anyone knows what they look lilke?

2 way alarms can page you from 1.5kms+ away if the alarm is triggered so its not really just for unlocking doors at long range.

I use mine to check the status of the car and check outside/cabin temperatures (good for winter). Sometimes even works while in the cinemas.

But yeah my sisters remote only has a range of about 5-10metres depending on the battery strength. Have you tried changing the battery?

yeh, wat u sed. is pretty much why i have the 2 way.
the remote also has a keylock, so it cant be pressed accidentally to unlock doors.
i was gonna install the remote start too.. but apparently its illegal in manual cars...

By the way I emailed Mongoose yesterday about the issue and they replied me today saying that they have received a few complaints about the range issue on the 2009 models and will get back to me once they figured out what's wrong.

the higher your alarm antenna is, the better signal you will get.... try that
