received these scans from a friend of mine, not sure wat magazine it came out of but thought id share it here .. and i noe there is a lot of different opinions of oils but atleast this is somewhat closer to just hearing someone say something is good or bad. Royal Purple certainly kept its reputation whether it be by mouth or magazine testing.

iv ebeen told that the motul 8100 0w-40 is really good
    i've gone through most brands
    castrol 10w-40 semi-synthetic
    mobil super 10w-40 semi- synthetic
    helix ultra 5-40 full synthetic
and am now trying castrol edge 5w-30 full synthetic
for me, castrol edge which is the one im using right now has turned out the best, such smooth revving aswell.
cant say the same for mobil and the standard castrol.
shell helix ultra is also pretty good

at work whenever a customer asks me about what oil they should be running in their performance car i recommend castrol edge sport, mobil1 or a nulon full synthetic (top quality aussie product)

if you are going to be tracking it as well i recommend going something like a 10w50 maybe even 10w60 cos the last thing you want is to spin a bearing as i have seen on a BNR34 GTR Nur (owners mechanic used a 10w40)

That's probably because the Edge was 1 step thinner than the other oils that you used at 30 weight.

I use Castrol edge 5 – 30 I think its that weight, tried Shell Helix but gets used too quickly, Honda stuff not very good, done a track day with the Castrol and held up great, been using it ever since, everyone should keep an eye on oil levels very frequently and don’t be I tight arse on cost of oils, do it your self and use the best and still cheaper than getting someone else to do it, I am also going to get a magnetic sump plug when it needs to be replaced as well.

So what would the verdict be for someone that has recently purchased an s2k and is doing their first service since buying the car, any suggestions?

If your car was purchased used, then it is not really the "first" service. So you can go for any synthetic oil in the correct viscosity range. I'd say try Edge 5w-30 first as it is cheap when on offer ($35-40) and great for the amount of money you pay while protecting better than FEO and all the other semi-synthetics out there.
