new engine or new gearbox... oh the predicament..

alright guys.. my stupid CVT gearbox gave out and now im in a predicament with my 98 EK civic...

option 1) get a manual(or standard auto) gearbox replacement for my trusty d16y5 engine... which i havent been quoted yet but ill be taking it to shop soon
if someone wuld quote me a rough figure thatd be cool...

option 2) get a new engine & box.. which engine? cheapest option wuld be another d16 or maybe go for a b20 (by itself)? (i cant really afford a b16 or b18) i guess but how much wuld that cost?

im pretty tight on budget atm due to some newly imposed financial constraints (which sux ballz) otherwise id buy another car.. so what u guys reckon i shuld do?
b20 + ek4 box is on the cards (thanks vinny) but where wuld i get that done around here - sydney/livo area?

go to bennjamin if its a straight swap situation (buy a new gearbox or new engine and gearbox)

    i think a b20b8 (non vtec - 99-00 CRV) would cost about 1k.. then u need a gearbox say about another 1k..

u can let bennjamin do the install for ya

Bro. dont let ppl tell u its gonna cost you 5k+
i got my b20b8 for $350 , 70,000kms with recepts. shop around wreckers.
i highly recommend benjammin for the swap, very good prices man , wont be disappointed .
you will also need a computer, gearbox, engine mounts
I rekon b20b8 with b16 gearbox would be pretty sweet

what is ur budget? if I was in ur situation I would consider the couple of b16 swaps going for 3k.

Well no, I think the new box is the most effective idea.

IMO why not go and get your current box redone?

within current budget (i have been told)

look at either a manual or another auto gearbox. I would suggest a manual conversion to pep up your current car....make it alittle nicer to drive.

current box which is cvt is not worth redoing im told.. i hear its ALOT of work to redo so it might aswell have another auto or manual gearbox installed...
yup considering that aswell ben, thanks for the help btw. currently trying to see what will fit into my plans and budget, hopefully i may be able to get some extra funds..
