    disable vtec-e

    hey guys...
was wondering if anyone knows how to disable vtec-e... on a d16y5 engine..
like since it switches from 12valves to 16 valves at 3000rpm..
how can i make it that it operates @ 16valves ALL the time...
feeling a little sluggishness @ low rpms and the car needs some pull down low especially with the tranny...

    cheers! =)

since its a economy engine....running it ON constant will no doubt loose power and essentially go against its "-e" title.

IE its a silly idea lol.

yeh i kno.. but i dont really care for the fuel consumption part now..
u think that an extra valve for each cylinder @ low rpm wuld help though?
cos the auto tranny on my civic now doesnt really seem to fit & a little more extra wuld help it chug along like the normal GLis...

No, it won't. At low RPM, 12 valve gives a swirling movement to the intake charge in the cylinder which provides more torque/power. At 3000rpm, the 12 valve set up begins to limit the amount of air that can be filled into the cylinder, so it switches to 16 valve. If you leave it at 16 valve all the time, you will find that you will lack torque at low rpm and above 3000rpm it will be exactly the same as now.
