(NEED HELP) going from d15b7 non vtec to D16Y1 vtec

hey guys and girls, my old d15 is blowing smoke and on the way pritty soon as it has 300.000 on the clock. Just purchsed a D16Y1 and was just wondering what type of things will i need to do to make it run in my car. the motor i got didnt come with the ECU so i was wondering if i can just run the d15 ECU or do i have to get the p28 and if i do get a p28 what extra wires do i have to run. Is there any other wires i have to run. will all the plugs match. Im gonna be installing the motor myself and i have a good understanding of machinics but just need some pointers with this install. these motors, d15 and d16 both run OBD1 so will everything match?

Oh and the car is a eg5 gli special edition hatch.

since the motor is out def, change timing belt, tension pulley, cam and crank seal, water pump, its a good excuse to change alot of things that would be costly if it was in, hell I'd change the clutch and flywheel too

    Hi

the D16Y8 is OBDII engine, but you can run it off an OBDI ECU with the correct distributor.

I would use the D15B7 engine loom and all you have to do is run a wire for the VTEC solenoid back to the ECU.

I can modify your P06 ECU and add VTEC support as well as the correct rom for a D16Y1 and disable VTP in the ROM.

If your D16 was originally out of a EG it will be a D16Y1

if its a D16Y8 then it could have one of two distributors
1: EK VTi ( sedan or hatch ) 3 sensors in the Dizzy
2: EJ8 ( Coupe ) 2 sensors in the Dizzy, one sensor on the crank
    no VTP

    if its a D16Y1

you will have the dizzy with the 3 sensors and a VTP

yes thats it, when you get it, post up the engine type, then look at the dizzy and the connector will tell you what type it is. if it has 7 wires going to it then its type 1 from above post, if it has 5 wires then its type 2. allow two thick wires blk/yel and blu on both types of dizzys. OBDI has two connectors, OBDII has one ( both connectors merged together )

done this a few times already, u use ur d15 dizzy and it will bolt up perfectly on the y8 motor

Y1 dizzy will not fit y8 motor. hence bolts wont line up.
