and so i just got defected 10 mins ago..

    hello,

i just got a nice yellow canary sticker on my car for having hids, and tyres that are below the manufacturers standard "load" rating - whatever that means. i didn't know hids were illegal? is this correct? unless they came factory standard is what the cop said. anyways, waste of 30 minutes. i bet it was the 12000k headlights i had that caught their attention, told him i've had them on for the last 4-5 years and never got in trouble so i thought they were ok. so i got away with a tyre and headlight defect with no fine. it pays to play dumb sometimes

Never heard of tyres being under the load rating.
Its normally rims that are under the load rating. What car did you get the defect in if you dont mind me asking?
And what the load rating is refering to is the amount of weight each rim can with stand. If its less then what the car can carry full load ( i think ) then the wheels arent strong enough, and when the wheels are under stress, not a good idea driving around on them...

i got done driving a civic vi!! not the typical hoon vehicle. the car standard is 560kg, and my tyres are rated at 500kg. so i'm under by 60kg, the cop said there was a chance that under heavy braking or anything that puts strain on the tyre, it could fail. he made me open up my bonnet, and saw the hids and my pod filter but i had a heat shield so he didn't say anything. i thought i was going to get done for that too, cos i always thought having an open pod filter is illegal as well.

hids are illegal if not standard like the cop said... and being 12000k would have been obvious.

the tyre thing seems pretty unlucky... but if that's wot they said, that's how it is.

and fyi for everyone, open pod filters are FINE in Vic, as long as it's secured... i received a minor defect a while back only cos it was loose, and vicroads said no issue, only needs to be secured and not loose, ie extra brackets are good. same deal with cf/fibre glass bonnets... no probs.

i've ordered a 2nd set of 6000k globes so hopefully that will help me not being so noticeable at night. and yes, i have adjusted them accordingly facing them downwards but sometimes i notice that i blind the people to my left as the car headlights come like that - the left headlight points further out than the right headlight. i've also noticed that even though i've pointed my headlights down, the light disperses like crazy so they look really bright to others but i can barely see the road! so note, don't ever get 12000k hids unless you've got ultrabright foggies. so if you see the 12000k lights in the western suburbs until the 24/09, beep me and give me the finger!

edit: i was going to say to the cop that the ep3 comes standard with hids from japan, and they have exactly the same headlights as my eu3 - my bro has an ep3 - but somehow its illegal for me to have them but i didn't want to be a smartass and get owned for being too low, too loud, oversized rims and whatever else they had in store for me. thanks for all the input guys! <3 ozhonda.
