    HELP - powering fog lights - FD1

    Hi all.

I've had fog lights semi installed on my car for a while now. Hit a brick wall when doing the wiring as the harness that was supplied was incorrect and left the install for a few months.

Basically all I need to know is where to take power from. Preferably from somewhere inside, preferably somewhere under the dash driver side. Enough to power normal fog lights.

I've spent 3 nights now prodding places with a voltmeter and testing tool... every night getting slightly closer...and learning stuff (first time I've done any auto electrical stuff). I've blown about 4 7.5A fuses now lol... have to go buy some more.

Can anyone please tell me where I should splice my wire that is to power the foggies?

    Some reference photos:

I hope I don't have to run a wire from under the bonnet through the firewall to get power... wouldn't know what to do.

Please help! :P I don't want to lose faith in DIY

    Thanks,
    Mark

I can vaguely make out a 30, i dont have an ek but i know 1 of them is live on those empties =] that suit plugs not fuse. get a female connector add to your wire and stick the bish in.

Yep, the blue connector all the way on the left of that row is live when the parkers are on... but its used for the accent lighting. I'll splice my switch into that connector. BUT, there's only one live pin... powering both accent lighting and the switch (which has a led and a electro magnet switch thingy). I don't think the skinny wire is gonna be able to power the foggies too... so is there somewhere else i can get the power for the foggies?

Can be live regardless of the parkers... as the switch is only on if the parkers are..

just use it lol. parallel wire it up dude, will work. remember to add a fuse in unless ur harness doesn't already have it. it will work trust me.

    Just to make it clear....

You reckon I can use that one live pin to power:
    - Accent Lighting switch - (I'm not sure if it powers the actual lights with this pin or not)
    - Fog light switch (led & electro magnet switch thingy)
    - The actual fog lights

Regardless of where I get the power from for the foggies I'll add a 25A or 30A fuse...

HANG ON.... that connector has a 7.5A fuse protecting it... how could it power foggies if thats the case?

increase it. you only need 12V that wire should have 12V. it'll work. if it doesnt change the 7.5 to 15A won't do much

Thanks mate! I wouldn't have given it a go because it was already in use and only had a 7.5A fuse. But I've spliced in the foggies as per your suggestion and hey hey it works!!

Still with the same fuse - which I'm surprised it hasn't burnt out... but yeah went for a little drive (first in over a week) and the foggies work a treat.
