Yes, they would most likely have had to respray both doors. That can sometimes leave you with doors that don't match the front and rear quarter panels of the car, so it's not unheard of to repaint the entire side of the car.

Due to the paint being clear-coated, it's very hard to spot repair just the area of the scratch, especially if the scratch is deep. If it's not done properly, you'll see where the respray meets the original paint, usually as halos or hazy areas, or the colour won't appear to match, even if the colour layer is the same underneath. They have to 'lose' the edges of the repair, so normally the best way to do that is repaint the entire door.

Went for a quote this weekend at a workshop near my area And I've been told that it'll roughly cost $500 to repair and respray. I've also been told that the extent of the damage is actually worse than what I anticipated. To the point that after repairs it's only going to be 80% ok. To do a proper job a new rear bumper will be needed and I've been advised that these bumpers aren't cheap seeing as it will need to be imported in from Japan.

He recommneded just repairs as it will be farrrr to costly to import, respray and fit the bumper. He mentions that only upon close inspection fro
a trained eye will u notice the imperfections after repair. He is talking about the 2 slight dents in the bumper that I did not notice previously.

*sigh* breaks my heart just thinking about the damage to my car

What's your insurance excess? Might be worth claiming and getting the new bumper cover.

Not repairing it properly could affect resale value of the car, if it's noticeable.

Off the top of my head i think insurance excess is about $1,500 ??

Not really concerned about the resale value as i don't plan on selling this car anytime soon.

Just not sure whether to go for repair job or new bumper :S

The guy did say that there will be around $1000+ difference between repair and whole new bumper. He did say that if it was a Civic and not the Euro it would've been a cheaper job. Godamnit ! haha

do they replace the side skirt (the stock ones) with the bumper. because if you notice its connected in one long piece. maybe thats why its so expensive.

could you also post pics, im really curious to see how bad it is.

did you know it only costs around $1k (worst case scenario) to import a rear bumper...if you get it done by someone always imports stuff so shipping isnt expensive. then it would cost just around $700-$800

Haven't had time to take pics. As soon as I'm free I'll take a few quick snaps and load them up.
