    Clunk in 1st gear

i noticed yesterday that for some reason my car has developed a 'clunk' noise from the front end when i let the clutch in or out in 1st gear only.
i know that my throwout bearing is on its way out as I have the typical whirring noise but this is a loud clunk that i can also feel just slightly through the pedals.

I am wondering what this could be? I am sure that it is not suspension as everything is tight(checked), wondering if it might be a rear engine mount? the others are all good but the rear is difficult to get to and check.
