Misc oil change Qs for 08 CBR600RR

    Hi guys,

I'm epic noob when it comes to bike maintanence. I need to change my oil. It's been a bit over 5000kms. Some questions:

    - What oil should I use?
    - Where do I buy it from?
    - What oil filter should I use?
    - Where do I buy it from?

    - How much do I need to strip the fenders to change the filter?
    - How much time will it take me in total to change oil/filter?
    - Any special tools required?

    Thanks for your help all!

i went to Honda and got the oil and the filter from there...

the filter was stupid expensive for its size (like 25 or something) and so was the oil. I bought Honda oil and it was like $70 for 4 litres. But you may be able to get a generic oil but they didnt have the right viscosity for mine

I recommend you give it a shot yourself... do you know where the filter and the dran etc is? maybe you can find a manual online?

Definitely Use Motul full synthetic, and original Honda Filter.
Dont mess around with cheaper oils they will screw up your engine.
    Thanks

Oil choices in order of awesomness* and price.
    Motul 300V
    Motul 7100 full synth
    Motul 5100 Semi-synth

*I would just use 5100 unless you race every day. Price difference of like $20 between the 7100 and 5100. If you change oil enough 5100 will do. Just my opinion. Weight should be 10-40.

Any filter will do, some recommend use genuine Honda...but I don't think it makes a difference. For the price I'd prefer buy a K&N filter they have a socket thing on it to make for easier changes. No point telling where to buy cause I don't know where you live...I get my stuff from MCAS at Auburn.

You need to take off both fairings. They should come off with an allen key.

Takes about 1 hour or so of steady paced working. Start to finish.

You need a 1/2" socket set, a small funnel unless you have good aim, an extension for the ratchet to reach betwen the headers to undo the drain bolt/sump plug.

    How much oil =

    2.8L with filter change
    2.6L withuot filter.

I assume you know that the oil needs to be warm/hot when drained. Just adding, after you fill it up run it. Let it cool and then check level again.

    Thanks, jbird!

    That's all the info I need =)

I think I will try it myself. Gotta start somewhere right?

    Cheers all,

No worries. It's not heaps hard.

If you've done a car before, you shouldn't have a problem.

Lube the chain whilst your at it.

One other thing I would check at 5000kms...take the lid off your airbox and just lightly tap out any large obstructions on your air filter. No doubt theres a couple of dead bugs and what not.
