i just thought i'd share this diy with you.
basically since i've got a mugen air box, i thought it was too expensive to replace the mugen air filter (approx. $180)
so i've spoken to a few people and researched a little and found that you can fit a k&n panel filter with some modfication. the panel filter i used is for VE holden commodore 3.6 v6 and retails for around $95 depending who you know.
firstly here is a picture of the mugen bottom half

now you need to take the filter and cut a little bit just above the kink so it can fit around the nut & bolt. how much you cut is up to you.

the cut you made previously is to allow the filter to sit around the nut

this is the filter with a bit of it cut off to sit around the nut. as you can see the width and length is pretty much spot on minus the gap in the top left hand corner.

now you need to measure the triangular gap and cut a piece of something to fit in there. it could a piece of plastic, aluminium, sheet metal. whatever you desire.

what i used was a piece of colourbond sheet that i had lying around. i cut it into shape and placed it there to see the fit. i was happy with it.

so i cleaned the whole box, especially the top left hand corner (where i'm pointing)

and i siliconed the piece of sheet in. i used clear silicone but you can use what you want since its all internal.

now i've put the filter in and you can see that gap is non existent.
