    please help, exedy clutch issue

Hey guys, im just posting this up for a mate.

my mate owns 99 prelude vtir and he recently purchased an exedy clutch from ebay.

he was advised to wear in the clutch (by the seller) for 3000 approx km.

after this wear in period, the clutch keeps slipping and unable to to get power to the ground, in addition he is not able to hit vtec .

first question- he is aware that there are alot people selling fake stuff on ebay however the seller claims he has purchased it from a exedy distributor

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY...Q5fAccessories

can anybody tell if this clutch is fake? and if it is fake which he believes it is 90%, could this be the cause of the problem he is having. he has also fitted a flywheel from the same seller

The feedback on this seller seems very good.
Where did your friend go to install the parts? Did the installer adjust the clutch pedal properly to take into account the new clutch?

No offence but how do you know it is fake? It might be an installation issue. You could also try chasing up the seller and confirm that he is an authorised distributor.

i actually told him that it was most likely fake because i have heard alot of stories and seen alot of people on various forums say that they have either heard of or bought fake exedy clutch's on ebay. theres alot of fakes floating around. he emailed the seller and the seller claims to purchase the clutches from an authorised distributor.

Either install issue or he didn't wear it in properly. 500KMs of no VTEC or launching, then another 500KM of no launching but VTEC is ok. After that first 1000 KMs it should be fine.

    Def installer issue.

Sounds like loose pressure plate bolt/s or similar , since the clutch is slipping it will destroy
itself so get it back to the installer asap

    As above.

However the installer will charge you if he has to pull it out and you then find it is a fake. If it is an installation issue however he shouldn't be charging you. If the clutch is damaged due to poor installation (make sure you have a look at it / get photos taken when it is removed) then the installer may have to foot the bill.

Maybe also try contacting the distributor he speaks of and see if they do actually supply to him (him being the ebay seller). But it does sound more like an install issue.

wow 3000km break in period is too long..
i took it easy with my new exedy HD for ~800km and started driving harder towards 1000km.
didn't your friend notice any problems during the first few weeks of driving?
