Vtec seems to be engaging too early

Hi everyone! great to be here at ozhonda.com btw. I have a question

I recently purchased my 05 Dc5 Type S and well i love it! I have been noticing that the engine note changes at about 4500 - 5000 RPM, and at 6000RPM i cant feel anything nor hear any difference. Im not sure if thats normal for a stock DC5 but its alot different from the ones ive seen on youtube.

I bought it 2nd hand with 80,000KM on it, and the last owner was a female. So I dont think she would of had a vtec controller on it. But anyways i dont know. Can anyone shead some light on this for me..

    Much appriciated.

have u got air intake or exhaust?
or everything is stock? because intake and exhaust would enhance the note and feel of when vtec engages.
An Engine is an Interactive System -
One part does not make it,
it is the combination of parts that is the key.

In stock form you can't really hear the changeover all that well at 5800rpm, you should feel it pull harder tho, especially in first gear. This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y4p95TRkjg is the best vid I can find of the stock sound. @ 6 sec is VTEC yo. There is another tone change before that in the vid, maybe what you were referring to? Get an open filtered intake to hear it better.

ah ok thanks, i think its just me imagining stuff. Would you suggest a K&N Cold air intake? and are they easy to fit?

    Wouldn't recommend anything K&N for a DC5, would recommend a CAI though.
That being said, there are plenty and plenty of intake discussions for DC5R/S floating around..

Did you end up getting the problem fixed ?

I have a 04 Type S with 80,000kms and have exactly the same problem !

I have had it at the mechanics on and off for a year now and no fix.

I know what your saying, it has nothing to do with needing to put on a CAI or exhaust like the other guys are saying.

    Let me know

The DC5 Type-S are meant to have a smoother VTEC transition which you can barely hear in a stock form @ 5800rpm, its different compared to our Aust. DC5 Type-R. The Type-S shares the same camshaft component with the JDM Type-R.
Better yet, put up a video to really determine your VTEC problem

@pearso81 is there such thing as an 04 Type-S ??, lol. I thought its 05-06 only
