Carbies respond better with filters coming off the throats. In other words, air from 360 degrees rather than enclosed piping with a filter at the end of it.
The direct air from the filters down the throats is what makes it more responsive.
Theoretically yes I agree but Ive experienced both setups and without the stock location filter in place it performs better..
I would have freely ran against other setups for comparison but cars long gone

I tried doing this with a single carby, since I cant find a filter that would replace the air box assy, I just took off the intake arm connected to the fender well and that alone made the acceleration / throttle responsive and quicker. Went to AutoBarn and Supercheap but I can't find any universal filters to chuck on the mouth of the TB. I just bought a mini breather.
PS: it seems to make the petrol consumption a bit higher.

Take off the whole lot and get a bird catcher from big block Chevy lol
