    Car Shuts Down randomly.

    Hey guys.

    I own a Honda Civic EG5 Vti d16y1 motor.

My car sometimes randomly shuts down as im driving.
When i crank the car (turn the key) it turns on normally, but i just don't know why it keeps randomly shutting down when i drive it around. I feel as though there's not enough current or power to keep it going.

Some has told me Fuel Pump not pumping enough fuel to keep the car going when driving, dizzy problems, spark plug problems and battery problems.

    Help me out.

    Thanks.

it is the combination of parts that is the key.

do your normal checks before taking it to a mechanic

    check oil levels
    coolant levels
any codes getting thrown onto the dash?
check all your spark leads, gap your plugs,
get a multi metre check battery stationary
check battery charge rate from alternator
check battery with load put on it,
check battery connection from starter, alternator to battery
    check grounding postions

    check the timing also

Have you noticed if it lacks power then stalls, or does everything just turn off including dash lights? It maybe the ignition switch if everything just turns off (like if you turned the car off with the key) or possibly water damaged ecu, may stall randomly like this and then it just may not start one day! has any rain/water got into ur car lately? Like mentioned above, check the basics first..
If it aint VTEC .........Fix it!!

likely key barrel maybe stuffed - does your key move around considerably in the barrel ?

I had this type of problem and was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what it was. I would drive along and the car would die, I would drop the clutch or turn the key and it would restart.
    It seemed absolutely random.

It was in fact the key barrel. As I used to hang my entire set of keys off the car key, there was several hundred grams of metal hanging off my key barrel. Over time this made the key lose contact with the barrel.

$100 bucks or so with and my VIN was enough to get a replacement barrel and installation from my local Honda dealer, that matched original keys.

you have probably fix this problem by now, but i once had a similar experience
it was just a loose battery (that i thought was tight, so i didnt check it :l)
and it was just a loose terminal that would short out the car at random and it only happened a few times!
so tightened it all up and it hasnt happened since, but it could be anything.
    good luck buddy (y)
