Air Conditioner is out - DC5R

Hey all

Couple of weeks ago the compressor for the air con decided to give up on me. I have seen two specialist who quickly had a glance at the compressor and concluded the compressor's days are over.

I was just wondering anyone here who owns a DC5R if they encounter this problem. Any pointers they can give me, cost? possible problems? other parts required? or even suggest a reputatable service person in the sydney metro area. Will the "auto" function poses any problems after the repairs are done?
Generally, cost is about $1000.

i encountered the exact same problem in mine just over a year ago. although it took a while to source parts from melbourne (im in newcastle) it was fixed for $800. no problems whatsoever and the auto function works perfect, it should be entirely sperate to the condenser, but correct me if im wrong.

Did you have the air con on "fresh air?" because that is bad juju. Always have it on recycle, if you want fresh air lower your windows. Im guessing debris got sucked in through the "fresh air" vents and clogged your condensor and it shit itself because for some stupid reason DC5R's do not come with a filter for "fresh air". A similar thing happened to me, but just my system got clogged and wasnt draining so i had heaps of water in the car.

There is no way for debris to enter the compressor except if there is a leak in the system, in which case all the refrigerant would leak out and the system would cease to function, or if debris somehow finds its way past the seals on the input shaft on the compressor, again unlikely.

$800 including labor?

Just came from another technician and its getting more and more expensive. A whooping $1500! I suspect he's trying to take me for a ride. He was suggesting that not only the compressor needs to be replace but the condenser too because when the compressor failed it may have sent tiny little metal parts into the system. From my understanding this is easily resolve thru flushing?
