cool so far as i can see the exhaust must leave the car so if u take off the axle back that illegal cos the exhaust is coming out from under the car but not away from it and it can heat stuff up and increase chance of fires, the exhaust must not extend anymore the 50mm away from the back of the car, if the exhaust doesn't poke out the back and comes out under the mudguard or something it requires a engineering certificate to say its safe (unless it was like that stock obviously).
so yes a axle back is required!
doesnt say anything abt muffling, so as long as its below the 96DB or w.e it is, and NO HOLES in the exhaust.

So I was revving the car today without the axle back and it doesn't smell to good. Is this normal? What's going on? Does the muffler also act as a cleanser or something?

haha sorry man, but it had to be done. is there a way i could like... make it legal? i mean a straight pipe with a flange or something still wont work? or like mentioned before just stick some metal over the pipe to look like a muffler. anything?
the jazz is finally sounding half decent

do a straight pipe, but not too loud. of get the original and try cutting the tip of and making the hole like 3 inch and welding a piece of pipe there to replace the tip... that would still be legal.
even better get like a auto technica one for Super cheap and make a piece of pipe that expands to fit that and attach that instead

Just get a lukey sports muffler on it, or even any muffler. Supercat make decent mufflers, all different types too.
