B18 is legal in NSW with p plates since it falls under the up to 15% engine capacity increase rules.
All you need to do after the conversion is get a blue slip (adjustment of records) and also you need a receipt for the engine.

Theres no need for a brake upgrade to make it legal, but most people will reccomend changing them since you have a more powerful motor.
This is most likely a noob question but if you have a mechanic you trust not to rip you off, can they order another engine for you and install it (Considering that a D16 to a B18 swap would take a fair amount more knowledge than just installing the same engine again when the old one has died)?
In Victoria the only engines that can go into cars is the engine it comes in with different models.
Say for ek best motor youcan put in is b16a
For eg is d16a
Dc5 is k20a
In saying this it's only the motors in audm cars. So if you have b16b you can't put it in ek. Only with eng cert you can. Which goes for any other engines swaps.
I can get you the link to vicroads stating this if you request it

they wont know the difference between b16a or b16b 1 letter difference. just paint the b16b rocker cover black and voila
They can register b18c in your eg or ek. It's just how lucky you are cause I went there before and they said if it's 4 cyl to 4 cyl it's ok. So they obviously don't know. I'm just telling you whats on the paper
qld cant drive a car with an engine mod plate., but you dont need a mod plate if the engine is 0.2L bigger then stock motor there fore b18c/ b18cr is legal
