B18C7 - What is this and what does it do?

    Hey all,

If someone could tell me what the thing circled in red is and what it does that would great! Bonus points for telling me what the hoses (the ones that are plugged in by screws) should be connected to. Cheers

Cant really tell by the pic but if the thin hose with the screw starts at the top right of your intake manifold, then the end of it connects to the top of your Charcoal canister.

    +1 - need more info

i would hazard a guess that its an external purge solenoid for the charcoal canister

the charcoal canister only has a life time of about 5-10 years - so they are pretty much useless after that
its easier to just plug the lines than replace them so many people will do this

iv never seen the solenoid actually on the intake manifold tho - usually they are built into the canister

i reckon this b18c7 is in a civic or something, and the engine transplant was completed without the charcoal canister?

hmmmmmmmm, dont you need the charcoal canister to be connected in order to get road worthy?

instead of plugging the line why wasnt the whole purge valve assembly just ripped out?

The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission. The purge valve solenoid is supplied switched battery voltage. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage pulled low, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open in the circuit, this code is set.
    ^ no probs wazzeem.
