heavy duty degreaser, the trick is the let the degreaser soak, but the stuff i use at work, if you leave it for more then 5 odd minutes your paint will start stripping,,,,
isnt there like an engine bay cleaner product? i use the gerni already it just gets the grease off i have like this white chalky residue from something and its hard to get off

Thats either residue from the degreaser or the alloy reacting to the degreaser.
Try some Inox spray will make it shine
Wax and grease remover is good for gums and grease as well. Put some on a rag and rub away....
th white chalky residue is actually the remnants of your degreaser... that is the issue with using it all over your bay, it will be more pronounced on alloy parts. The only way to get rid of it is to use a rag with some prepsol / polish.
You wont be able to get the paint on your rocker to shine because it is not a shiney/glass finish... but you can get it clean with some prepsol and a rag
When i detail my bay i follow these steps
1) With a plastic bag, cover the alternator / alarm / stereo fuse
2) Spray degreaser around the bay, mostly onthe lower parts of the engine
3) Spray off with high pressue hose
4) remove plastic bags, and turn motor on until its warm, to get rid of all the water in hard to reach areas
5) Wipe down and remove remaining water
6) polish all paint areas (1, 2 or 3 step depending on how keen i am)
7) treat all rubbers and plastics with some rubber/vinyl treatment to get them black and shiney again. This includes all hoses in the bay. For dirty ones, it might help to hit them with some cleaning agent like prepsol first
8) hit any metal, such as an intake, strut brace etc with some metal polish
9) Wipe down any other areas with some prepsol to remove degreser residue
Following this, i will run over the bay with a damp rag at every wash to keep it clean.
I haven't done this in a while as i dont have time, but your bay will look immaculate for long periods if you follow this...
