exhaust for EG
hey guys, ive looked around on here, but wasnt sure which section this would be in, if its been asked before!
Well at the moment, i have a pretty much stock EG8 GLi, with a CAI and im interested in putting an exhaust on it. I dont want none of that loud fart can shit, i want something with a nice tone, not too loud, any suggestions? do the different brands make a difference with the tone, or even performance-wise (if any)?
im guessing no one these days could just change the muffler, so get a catback exhaust? I am located in Melbourne, so also if anyone can recommend anywhere i can go and get it done,
Please guys, give me your suggestions! thanks heaps

before you decide anything, whats your budget? You need to realise that the gain isn't going to be substantial especially in a GLi, so you're practically paying for sound.

budgest wise, im happy to spend upto 350$? or however much it'll cost..
as long as it doesnt sound cheap and shitty :P ill be happy haha

In all honesty, if you don't want a 'cheap and shitty' sounding exhaust, you might have to pay a bit more than $350, and if you really want the full tone of the engine a catback or even extractorback system would be the way to go, but thats way too expensive for what you want. Check the sales section of the forums, guys are always selling decent mufflers and exhaust systems, I bought a $50 hiflow axleback(muffler) off here and it doesn't sound tinny or fart at all. srs
Don't bother with cannons, they look shit and sound shit too.. Spoon N1 exhaust system is probably what your after, they sound throaty but can be a bit loud up high. Yeah brands do make a difference, if you buy a cheap ebay kit, you pay for a cheap ebay kit, don't expect it to be the best thing in the world. Go check out the sales section or even go to a exhaust specialist around your area, they usually can do catback systems that sound decent for ~$500-700 depending on brands

Thanks for the reply! I only said around 350, going by what ppl have told me they paid for their cars for catback, but if i have to pay more, that's not an issue and yeah i don't want no tinny sounding stuff! As for extractors, im on Ps so not sure what the go is there haha i might look into the spoon n1 tho
-
Yeah you'll probably need an engineer cert for a complete system, forgot about that on your ps haha, unless you do a home job! N1s are good exhausts, you probably won't get too much gain in power from it like stated above but you get what you pay for. If its just sound and look your after try find a decent axle back and fit it yourself of you can

My tip is just some brand which is unknown to me, cant remember at all
sounds pretty great though
deep note, although I'm comparing it to the sound of a cannon, which is wat was on it when i bought it
and my brothers exhaust is some metal tubing from an old bunkbed, I'm jealous of how good it sounds

If ur just after sound, 350 can get a really good axle back, something like a spoon axle back or so...
But if ur after the full beans catback + high flow cat + headers, than 350 is no where near it lol, minimum atleast 600 > 1500 is needed to be set aside for it.
-
you just need to get a barrel type muffler
as the cannons are the loud ones

thanks for the replies, im still unsure of what to get, should i go just catback? or will i need the highflow cat aswell? or should i just go the lot inc headers?
