    '02 VTi-L Alternator whine, 120k auto

    Hi,

Been trying to determine if the whine in my Accord is the tranny, or the alternator. Have a feeling it's the alternator as the shifts are sharp, and silky smooth even when cold, to the extent you barely even notice.

Car is a 2002 VTi-L with 120k on the clock -is this fairly common? Bit of looking on US boards say it's the bearings are on their way out. $$$ ? ...

    Thanks

Is the whine very audible around the alternator?
Have you tested your voltage supply with a multimeter to make sure its not the alternator going out?
Does it whine while idling? Or driving?

Only whines when driving. Haven't had a chance to test with a multi meter, but contacted my mechanic and he said it could be any number of things. Even the timing belt being over tensioned when last changed and loosening up.

It's due for a service in 500km so not too worried, I never drive it hard.
