How do I mount number plate on CRX SiR?

Just picked up my 89 CRX SiR from VicRoads but the VIC number plate is ~1-2cm too wide for it to fit in the rear bumper recessed mounting hole. Before I go trimming it or calling Vicroads, just wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

    hey mate,

you will find that problem on a fair few JDM cars.

the easiest way is to slightly bend the corners out. Usually creasing just around the lines is substantial enough - make sure you support the plate on a brick or wooden block - even a benchtop - put something soft and hit it with a rubber hammer.

you were right - I ended up bending the corners using pliers. Fits perfect now

I just cut about 2mm off each end of mine, added some rubber to the rough edges and bolted it on =)
