for some reason the car engine doesnt start even though the
headlights and taillights are working. would anyone
know what is preventing the car from starting?
and how to fix it? we tried jump starting the car
    with no success

also the battery is 5 years old

and the car isnt cranking anymore

is the green key flashing on the cluster ?

test that you are getting 12v+ to the starter motor solenoid while cranking

glad it was only the battery for you, however not a lot of people bother to check the alternator or starter motor first and just go buy a new battery without checking. Best to check first.
