That's the one DL. A friend of mine just bought one.
Doesn't quite hold its own compared to the older 4 cylinders, but still a step in the right direction compared to the new 250's.
Some nicer tyres out of the factory would have been nice for the $8k price tag though.

what does everyone think of the kawasaki 650L?
once on your opens, would you need to upgrade if you took the restrictor off lol

Nah I know it's not a big job
I'm now torn between a few bikes
Either going to go a 250 or a brand new Kawasaki or Honda

which honda? CBR250R? the single cylinder?
The Ninja 300 looks sweet, not cheap tho.

I don't have any experience on a bike, but I'm getting my licence next month
I don't know whether to get the ninja 250 or 300, or get a bigger bike that may not need to upgrade come opens if I unrestrict it
Eg Kawasaki 650l or Honda cbr500r or the cb500f

Big bikes and new bikes are going to come with a price.
I would say stick with a cheap used 250 because at the end of the day you're a learner and you probably will drop it.
Edit: Also if you unrestrict a bigger bike on your L/P you'll void any insurance you have.
Edit 2: This was actually all in reply to the posts above this, not the OP.

Go the Ninja 300
When you get off your restricted licence you will have people lined up to buy it from you, then the next problem will be "what open class bike" grrrr

Sorry, not my bike but a friends, had a few rides on it and a great bike for newbie's but also sporty

You'll quickly grow bored of the 300. They really don't offer much of an upgrade over the 250.
So little of an upgrade, that the price is hardly worth it.
Your best bet, if looking at new-ish bikes, would be to buy a used 250.
