Driving manual uphill
Hey guys,
Noob question! when driving manual uphill, what techniques do you guys use?
i've been driving manual for about a month now, love it, but driving uphill gets me everytime! i always find myself using the friction point to get me up, but i don't think it's good for the clutch as it'd wear it out quicker. So yeah, any tips and suggestions would be useful right now!

Do you mean like a driveway or a long upward road?
Either way just use the appropriate gear and feather the gas gently
1st gear for driveways usually

what? you hill start then go up the hill in a low enough gear not to struggle your engine, if your riding the clutch all the time you gonna have a bad time.

Well yesterday, i was stuck in traffic on a very steep hill. So i'd go up, stop, then go up again. It was a struggle, but i got up using the friction point. Just next time i'm in that situation though, i'd hate to be hurting my clutch like that

Lean out window with bed sheet and hope for an up draft wind

Handbrake start if you dont want to keep riding your clutch

Take your time, don't care about the other people behind you, as long as you don't overdo it and slam into the person in front, or roll back and slam into the person behind I'm pretty sure people won't mind the extra few seconds or so you'll take doing it.
If not, locate find a hill in a quiet area and just practise.

This thread is strange.
Dont worry about what people tell you on the internet, just do it the way you feel comfortable.
If youre in slow moving traffic going up a slope, then ride the clutch, youre not gassing it hard, just enough to keep moving, so thats fine.

You have no choice but to ride it a bit harder than you would on a flat
no way around this
if you can smell clutch you're riding it too much.
