Ek Sedan auto cvt gearbox problem

hi guys just after some info for a mate who has a series 2 vti ek sedan with an automatic cvt gearbox. my friend tells me the gears are slipping when the car is warmed up...hard to explain but he tells me it happens alot going down hills, sort of like the revs will just started climbing out of nowhere and it feels like the car is in neutral. his mechanic said he has seen the same problem with a few auto ek's and just recommends a gearbox change.

please share your thoughts or experiences thanks

Or the mechanics that worked on it didn't know it was CVT and just used the normal ATF fluid.

thanks for the input but you both couldnt of been anymore ignorant with your comments. the guy isnt mechanically minded he bought it for looks and only now knows what CVT is after i explained it to him @trism, what a fcking stupid thing to say, ofcourse its honda's fault. also he bought the car in 2011 with a full service history and only 109k kms and its only sitting on 120k kms atm so i dont know where you are getting your chances from Sp33

Yes cvt ek gearboxes are known to fail. I would do a normal auto or manual swap.

Did he maintain the fluid change intervals of the CVT?

    OP

get your mate to properly flush the CVT fluid with fresh honda stuff - and see if that helps.

I have a 07' jazz and every 15-20,000kms the gearbox begins to shudder and only is fixed by a fresh fluid change.
