    DC2R Gearbox issues

My dc2r is having some issues with its gearbox. Shifting up through gears is silly smooth but I can't downshift into 2nd unless the car is stopped.

Reverse is also funny. It won't roll in gear with the clutch engaged and little to no throttle, it's also very difficult to get out of reverse.

It does sound like the thrust bearing or pressure plate is on it's way out as it rattles when idling and the clutch is engaged. I think the previous owner may have sat at the lights with the clutch in.

It's only recently started and the gearbox has always had honda mtf changed every 10,000km and I've very rarely done red line shifting from first to second.

Any ideas what could be wrong before I take it to a mechanic??

Downshifting is harder work for synchros because in effect they have to "accelerate" the gear set. If you have a synchro problem it almost always shows up in downshifts first. Does a bit of a throttle blip help you slot the gear in on decel?

A big blip on the throttle helps it get in. It slots in easily at around 6-7k rpm.

The clutch does sound funny when its engaged, but I think that its the thrust bearing making that noise.

Any ideas on cost to drop a box, inspect it, replace worn syncros and refit?

Your mechanic would let you know cost for removal and replacement. It does sound like your clutch is on its way out.
