Its pretty simple drag race. Mazda MX5 is lighter, have more litres, The Civic has a little vtec, the engine sits on the powered wheels so it may have a better start. But really the Mazda will win.
How do I know: A stupid Mazda MX-5 beaten me in one of the Victorian Motorkhana Championship course where its mostly staight with bends by 1 second.

The Mazda will win by at least 2 car lengths, 6 max.

The South Australian Government has proposed a change to the wording of its dangerous driving laws to include actions on private property.

In its current form, the legislation specifies harm to a member of the public but effectively excludes acts of dangerous driving committed on private property.

South Australian Attorney-General John Rau told News Ltd this week that he hoped to follow New South Wales’ legislation, the reach of which extends to an offence “on private or public land”.

Well the web says a 1.8 Mazda mx5 is pushing out 96kw at 6000rpm

    Compared too

    A ej8 guessing its a d16y8 us pushing roughly 95kw @6600rpm

It all comes down to weight
The civic is 1116kg vs 940kg curb weight

It's gonna be one interesting race

No its not lol. The 1.8L has more Nm over the d16 i believe and plus its lighter. Only way the civic will stand a chance is being a better driver. Doubtful as well since the driver made a thread here about this.
