    Cylinder rust... help please!

So pulled the head off my B16 after it's been siting for a couple months and found this orangy, brown crusty shit around the top of the sleeve

Please help what would be the next course of action. Can it be resolved without removing the pistons or whole engine?

looks like just simple surface rust bro... try a little 400-1000 grit sand paper and buff it away.. might need to neutralize the rust before though
Why don't you tell your daddy to comb his damn hair, look like some spiders is having a meetin' on his head.

scotch brite may get it - much safer than sandpaper. Your main concern is whether the top compression ring passes the rust band.

Cyl 1,2&3 look ok - Looks like you can see where the ring stops, but cyl 4 (the close up photo) is my main concern.

will have a crack at it later today with inox + scotchbright then fine sandpaper if i have no luck. also, i'll mask off below the rust line so I don't get crud down into the rings.

Did this engine have a blown head gasket?

Be very careful when taking the corrosion off, especially cylinder 4 if you think the top ring passes the rust. Maybe put a little bit of oil down that side of the piston and hand crank the engine, you will see where the top ring stops because it will leave a line of oil there.

Good luck and proceed with caution.

Don't worry about ring or top or compression etc.

    Looks fine
