And just so you know, here's a simplified version of the Super D recipe from d-series.org:

It's been done once by an OH member to my knowledge, as you can see here:

C7 swap or H22, although you won't get away with a Hswap on your p's I don't think? Don't waste time with the D.

some honda driver love the D too m8

D-series are awesome engines. Problem is fanboys comparing them to B's, H's and K's. Most D-series will set you back $50-200 - different kettle of fish.
Most other car manufacturers either won't or can't build a 1.6L engine that makes 96kw and 140~nm.
For what they are they're pretty fun
-
Who on earth actually compares them to B, H and K's? The closest thing they come to is a b16 on a cold morning without enough oil temp and pressure to activate vtec.
They're good for what they are, but they're weak as all hell and I don't get why people cling onto them. The Op has an opportunity to upgrade and has already given a rough budget to go by. It would be silly to not take the chance to put a BETTER motor in the car.
Am I just a fan boy?

H22 isn't necessarily an easy swap nor popular.
B18C7 I think you will struggle to get into the car with $4-5,000 as your budget, especially if you want a Hondata + tune (alone will cost you $1,100-1,300). So ideally you're left with a budget of like $3-4,000 max for the swap.
K-series well beyond that budget.
IMO either a turbo D (but you're a p-plater, or a B16A/B18C2 with no Hondata (not really necessary anyway) is the best bet.

Lightly modded d series. Highly skilled driver.
Having a good setup thats fast is one thing. Being able to drive it fast is another.

According to these two other videos of the dude in the JDM EF3:
The mods are:
ZC engine stock
Mugen header
Home made exhaust
AEM intake
Mugen LSD
4 strut braces
Rollcage
A050 Advan tyres
HKS in/ex camshaft
P&P head
44mm carbs
Mugen stabilizer
Front mugen shocks
Rear coilovers Technica.
Clutch stage 2
Lighten flywheel
Sorry, I forgot to type lightly - mildly yesterday. Mildly tuned it is then? Some rare Mugen parts are on the car! :O
Interesting suspension setup.

Just reminding you guys that eventually I wanna go K series, cos I am the KKK
Yea, maximum 1.8L from a 1.6L on Ps.
The father of B, H, F, and K series (any other Honda series?), the D deserves more respect yo!

Haha, that would sure make a lovely vinyl sticker, or a T shirt!

dougie, I was referring to the ZC rebuild build.
I would rather be more unique, and go crazy on the ZC build, rather than the usual P-plater B series swap.
If I go B18c7, I would be irresistibly tempted to mod the hell out of it as well, which would require moarrr monies.

Well said PHO!
I would rather start off having a less powerful engine, develop and rely 100% on my driving skills, then take it to the next level!
Just like how Bunta from Initial D coached Takumi, one step at a time.

Honda nerds, I have decided to go B18c Type R! Any specific advice on inspecting the engine (still in the owner's car)?
Thanks

Go ahead and go cwazy d series, spend a shitload and get the same output as stock b series.
But if you insist, d15b7
