    EK Power Antenna Not Working

    Hi guys,

After parking the car this morning the antenna didn't make the normal noise it does when turning the ignition off, and when I turned around the power antenna was stuck up.

It still has power because I can hear it trying to work but after a couple of on/off ignition tries it seems to be stuck up.

Any thoughts on what the exact problem might be and how I can go about fixing it?

    Thanks,
    Alvis

Just replace the antenna, all hondas are the same. The only thing that varies is the brackets that hold it.

The plastic reel would of broken, you can buy a new mast that comes with it but its cheaper to get a 2nd hand one.

Awesome, thanks for the reply grifty - I'll see what I can find second hand :-)

Honda is asking $198.65 for a new one, the cheapest in the US is about $172, so it is a little bit expensive...

I'm just wondering how much longer the motor will last... but I guess it's done alright to last all these years!

The motors tend to last for life, its the mast reel which is the common problem.

The best ones I've been able to find at wreckers have been from EK sedans.

Hey Alvis...I have exactly the same issue....was quoted last year about $110 for a second one installed. Can you give me the part number and and we can check to see how much it is to source straight from Japan?

apologies for the delayed response, checked with jesse and the cost of the antenna straight from japan is expensive $280.93 (26,145yen) each. I was amazed it was so expensive there.

Ever thought of changing it to a s2000 type stocky non-powered antenna?

Thanks for the reply guys, it's crazy the prices, and I had no idea the Prelude one was the same.

Ended up changing it today and it was an absolute shitter of a job.

While it was easy enough to get the antenna out after a few failed attempts, the main problem was the existing antenna slot had the sleeve of the old antenna still inside, so it took about 2 hours to try and drill it out so I could get the sleeve of the new antenna in...

I first tried to clean up the old mast in the hope maybe the teeth were clogged and it wasn't gripping but no luck, so then it was in with the new:

    1. Antenna and feeder come out

    2. Old vs New mast feeder after being cleaned up

    3. Old sleeve stuck inside - had to get this out so the new one could go in

    4. Eventually the old sleeve came out in bits and pieces

I had to shorten the new mast feeder by about an inch but works like new now
