We have worked on many 86’s and BRZ’s since release, and they still keep coming!
However we cannot stress enough how soft the paint is on these, especially darker colours so for any owners out there please use the two bucket method, a microfibre wash mitt and a waffle weave towel or microfibre chamois (not pva, leather/skin or synthetic), or you will unfortunately mar your paintwork very quickly after just a single wash.
This Black 86 was less than 2 weeks old when it arrived to our Brisbane Detailing Studio for Paint & Interior Protection. We had asked the customer not to wash the car to avoid any further chances of marring the paintwork. Although it seems the dealer had already induced some wash marks into the paint
The process;
Using the Autobrite Snow Foam + Mint APC, this would dwell and help remove any pre-wax (pre delivery) product that was on the vehicle that normally hides any fine marring fairly well. This allows us to inspect the paint, correct it and of course protect it.
A full decontamination process was used (standard) with 1Z Colourtec for any iron fallout, and our favourite dodo juice clay bar to remove any surface contaminants. Of course to no surprise, contaminants were found!
Few areas of marring were found and quite a lot of water spotting/etching, so it seemed like at least a single stage correction was required to bring the paintwork on this 86 to our standards.
Bird dropping & Water spotting quite evident = not friends of Black paint.
Dodo Juice Gentle Grey Clay Bar did pull off a bit of contaminants, considering this was/is a brand new vehicle!
No luster, no metallic pop, no depth – definitely can do more with this one!
