Input Shaft Bearing Civic fd1 Manual

    Hi guys,

I am sad and some what embarrassed to say that I am suffering from some transmission problems with my civic which has only done 140,000 KM.

It appears to be my input shaft bearing which is in the gear box. Although the part only cost $40 the labor will be very expensive.

Does anyone know if Honda somehow forgot to recall cars with this problem? Or will they fix this problem if i report it?

If anyone has any experience with this issue any advice would be appreciated.

Unusual that the bearing went, I mean I flogged my box for 125,000 smashed every gear at the track and it was fine til 4th gear lost all its teeth. What's the Labour quote you've been given ?

scrubbing, whirling noise when idle, clutch in noise goes away. Noise in first 2 gears are very noticeable.

    remaining gears no noise.

You didnt change the input shaft bearing when you did the clutch?
Did you replace your rear main seal too?

Both are not normal to be done when replacing a clutch. Main seal should be inspected tho.
Perhaps the incorrect fluid or fluid amount (too low) was installed.

What are the dangers of letting this go untreated?

Say if my clutch was about to go and I was waiting for that before I pay for labour for the gbox to be removed??

It's slowly wearing down - the ball bearings will spin unevenly in the carrier and your input shaft may go out if balance - also bits of metal are floating around your gearbox and may cause damage. So get it done.
