yet another story of getting jibbed by the Dealers...

Just ranting here folks - brought my FD1 for service at the dealers due to "extended warranty" up to 5 years for its 120k service - was quoted $810 because had to change "transmission fluid" as an additional and now he also tells me the front brake pads are needing to be changed at $280 arghhhh, an arm and a leg - I realise everyone needs to make their dough but to me this sounds like daylight robbery.

Definitely not going back here - independent specialist mechanics all the way...

    which dealership?

i wouldn't touch essendon with a 10 foot pole (unless it has a spear head)

and yarra honda seem to do everything that even has an inkling of needing to be done. not to say thats a bad thing tho

All services at dealers is a rip off. I went back for for my 20,000km service at Yarra Honda back when the car was new. Car only needed and oil change and end up costing me little over $300. Oil, Oil filter, Sump plug was olnly $110 and $190 was for labor which only took a little over an hour... Ever since then I never went back and have always taken it to my mates garage.

i know honda wanted the major service for 1k...got it done at a local mechanic for 400-500 max...i only use my extended warranty for faulty electrical as it happen to me twice.
had to replace speaker on driver side
    and interior dome unit

    all free under warranty...

make the most of it man...

Honda charge me over twice as much as a local mechanic. My local mechanic now knows me, gives great service and is open on Saturday. 80,000km service honda wanted 1k, he charged $440. For a normal service he charges $140.
Just did rear brakes, pads cost $80. Took about 40 minutes, needed 1 spanner and was super easy. There is a great DIY here on Ozhonda doing rear brakes on an Accord but is much the same as a Civic. I was quoted $270 for rear brakes from Honda.

    Love these Threads,

Goes to Dealer then complains about cost.

    nekminute

Goes to local mechanic then complains about shitty fluids used.

As fitme said, DIY. Wont take long, Very rarely would you require a special tool. Saves you dolans. Work is done to your own standard aka no bitchin or crying for your own failure. Don't have to be a anal specialist to change fair wear and tear parts like fluids filters breaks plugs.

Unless you have warranty too keep. Then of course, trusted mech + provide your own fluids and parts.

I haven't been to a dealer before for any form of servicing. Accesory installation, yes but that's it. I do all services myself at home. I even do the "major services" on cars I've had. "Big things" like CV joint or rotors I take to a local mechanic. Even then, I book it on a day which I am free all day and sit there and watch him do it.

LOL, did they say anything about the mods? Friggin one dealer turned me away and didn't want to change my ripped boot seal cause thought I got rear ended since boot gap didn't line up from factory. I didn't see the correlation or any sense... so I went to another dealer and got it fixed no questions asked.

Nothing it's not like it affects the electrical part of the car
Think my car was partial stock when I gave it in for the replacement parts
