How to clear crash data from SRS control unit

Have you had to replace an SRS control unit (also known as: SRS control unit (aka Supplemental Restraint System unit, SRS control module, air bag controller, air bag sensor, airbag electronic crash unit, SRS ECU)?

Did you know cash data and equipment faults are recorded in the module's file, and can be erased or 'reset'?

My questions is how can I find an expert in Melbourne who can reset my SRS ECU?

So far I've had two workshops say the ECU is cactus. One showed me the pulses on the SRS light:

code = 5-2 (five long flashes, four short ones).

I am hesitant about spending $650 plus on a new module before I understand other options. The car is a 1994 CD5 Accord. It has a driver's airbag. I'm not sure if the SRS module was replaced as part of any recall.

did both Mocchi. That's why I'm still looking for options below $650.
But I'm confused about the various part numbers for SRS modules from early CD5s, so my next steps are to:

1. Remove module to verify part number.
2. Check again with local wreckers, then
3. Check again with wreckers further afield.

The wreckers I called said $150 to $165 if they had stock.

What car is it for? Maybe the 2nd hand one you purchased also had the airbags deployed

The car is a 1994 CD5 Accord. Only had it a few weeks; the SRS light came on for no apparent reason.

I've not yet fitted any 2nd hand SRS module.

There is a yellow two pin plug that connects to the underdash fuse box. Use this to reset the SRS first then recheck the codes.
If the code just came on, I would say something else broke such as the SRS reel.

If all fails, I can know someone in Sydney who can rewrite the SRS module to pre crash status but its not really worth it for an Accord as a second hand replacement is the same price.

Found SRS unit at a wreckers. Same year. Same part number.

Same issue:
SRS light stays on when car is running.

Now can I assume either:
- I have fitted a faulty SRS unit is , OR
- the earth is bad, OR
- some other, as yet unknown, SRS issue?

How would you recommend I proceed?

Once a car has been in a crash and the airbags have been deployed the SRS module is useless. In Honda's view they are a one time only module.


5-2 Internal SRS unit failure is usually terminal to the SRS module.

My airbag (singular) hadn't been deployed, so I shouldn't have used the term 'crash data'; that just created confusion.

I fitted a refurbished unit purchased from an SRS specialist in Melbourne, cost $300. (New is $650).

Apparently, various hardware components in the SRS unit are prone to failure. The local SRS specialist said refurbished units come from interstate, i.e. within Australia but not from Melbourne.

My investigation leads me to believe that the cheapest option to fix an SRS unit like this, is to freight it to the US for repair. But still I'd like to know who in Melbourne fixes them locally. Please contact me if you have any suggestions.
