    since oem side is 225/50R17

both 235/45R18 and 235/40R18 are fine

they are both within +/- 2%.

pick the one with better tyre choices.

Hi there the adr rules state you must not exceed 15mm increase or decrease rolling diameter of tyre that is stock fitted to vehicle
If you go too big your speedo will read 5 to 10 kms out of speed to what you are doing

your best tyre to go with is 245 40 18 or 235 40 18 which is only out by smallest amount
refer link to see the specs

I recently pickup a set of unmarked near new stock 18" rims which has 235x45R18 all round. Its riding on near new MOMO outrun M3 tyres. Design in Italy by MOMO made in a factory in China. I didn't even know that MOMO is in the tyre business.

Surprisingly the tyres are very grippy in the wet and dry. Running at 37PSI and best of all very quiet (near silent on smooth roads) compared to the stock 17". Side walls are a little soft which gives it a smooth ride. The tyres squeals at the extreme when pushing hard but does not let go. Im impress for MOMO first go at making tyres.
