    another oil thread

    Hi guys,

I'm picking up a Cl9 with 125kms or so on it. She's always been serviced on time and at a Honda dealer...until now, the yard I sourced her from have done the 130k service already (along with the rwc , New tyres and windscreen)

Question is, I'm guessing it's safe to assume Dino oil has been used for most of its life)(Honda's own rrecommended oil was mineral no?)... If so, should I go to a fully synthetic now? 5w-30 best for these girls?

    Any recommendations?
    Thanks

5w - 15w for an honda engine in my experince.

Based on Temps and Where I see the engine wear to be at.

5w for healthy and cold periods.

10w for healthy and hot weather. Some will say 5w best but knowing me and how heavy left foot can get some days. I think its best to stick with 10w.

    10w for trashed cold period

    15w for trashed hot weather.

This has worked best for me.

    5w40 or 5w30 full sythetic

I switch between penrite hpr5 and Castrol edge/Valvoline Synpower, Shell helix ultra is good too

I even used 0w40, but they are generally more expensive, unless repco own oil (Repco RFS or whatever) goes on sale

The grade you use will also depend the condition and oil consumption...

Try as Fredoops mentions and see how you go

Hi, What should I use for a 87,00kms Cl9. Daily driven but every now and then I give it a little beating. Motor feels healthy.
Im thinking of using Penrite as I have been told my heaps of people that they are good. I've always used Castrol Edge on all cars
that I've owned but Thinking of testing out other products. Price isnt a problem as I want what is best for my cars.

    What would you guys recommend?

Obviously winter atm in Australia. I recently bought this Euro so don't know what the previous owner used.
But I have noticed that it takes a while for it to warm up.

i'd get tenths PREMIUM 5W-50 if money is not an issue from penrite.

have used before very nice, usualy buy the 20L gallon when on sale for ~$195 at supercheap covers 4 oil changes and any top ups if required.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Have used HPR5 in my previous ride so might stick with that if others have been happy with it in these.
Pretty sure ten tenths is overkill for the driving we do.

Castrolike edge may be an option as it comes up on special pretty often and the workshop is used when not doing my own work also use Castrol ... Food for thought

Autobarn have Castrol Edge 5-30 on sale - $40. That's what I use, never had a problem.

5W-50 too thick for our smaller capacity engines and winter...

5W-40 would be the thickest I would use personally.

    For a young engine I'd go 5W-30 Honda_FD
