    Shift linkage slop

    G'day ladies and gents

I was under my car today (I work with cars as my day job) and was wiggling the shifter rods
I moved the rod with the uni joint on it and the joint itself is firm and tight

I then continued to head towards the part where the spring pin (aka bish pin),it was loose side to side and you can see that the hole where you insert the pin is loose, the hole on the selector shaft that's sticking out of the gearbox is larger in diameter due to it being worn out

What can I do to fix this?try a new spring pin?
Sorry if I don't make any sense, typing this as I'm half asleep!

I'd say if it's worn the hole in either of the halves of the linkages, then the only way to fix it is to drill both linkages out and put an oversize pin in there. Was it loose in both holes, or just the centre one (in the gearbox selector rod)? If it's loose in both rods, how is it held in place?

Because the hole is worn, it is most likely out of round now, so putting a new standard or oversize pin is unlikely to fix the problem without redrilling. If it were just worn in the selector itself, you could get a new selector, or even at a pinch weld up the old one and redrill it, but because the selector shaft in the box is worn, this makes it harder to fix.

    Thanks for the reply bud

The hole on the actually selector shaft is worn, the shift Rod itself is fine (pin fits nice and snug)
