The world’s most famous endurance race has just finished on 14 June after experiencing suspense that was followed by some 263,500 enthusiastic spectators. At the arrival for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Audi’s domination for the past 13 years (interspersed with wins by Bentley and Peugeot) was eroded by Porsche, which placed two cars on the two highest steps of the podium.
Motul produced its technical support to several teams, in particular in LMP2 where racing was very fierce. Jota Sport’s Gibson-Nissan driven by Dolan, Evans and Turvey gave a very steady race allowing it to bag second place. Proving that this 24 hours race was more like a sprint than an endurance, the first three cars of this category were separated by a mere three minutes at the arrival! The other teams supported by Motul were not very far behind, with Murphy Prototypes, SMP Racing, whose new BR01 gave its first race, and Ibanez Racing, respectively fifth, sixth and eighth.
In LMGTE Am, SMP Racing’s Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Shaitar, Bertolini and Basov showed fine steadiness, allowing it to take advantage of the off-track excursion of the lead car one hour off the arrival and bagging the win in its category.
In LMP1, Motul partnered Nissan Motorsports, one of whose three innovative GT-R LM NISMO prototypes managed to reach the arrival.
Motul was also present on the circuit with much signage and through its partnership with the drivers Grand Parade attracting a massive crowd to the streets of Le Mans.
For the teams participating in the world championship, the next event will be on the Nurburgring circuit on 30 August.
