Value has to be part of the equation - and for $60 delivered the K&N is good value. If I wanted absolute performance in every respect I wouldn't even be looking at panel filters - I would go Injen or Typhoon.
Thats cool mate your choice I have the Icebox and went that way because of this. If I was only looking at a panel filter that is the way I would go despite the cost cause I know it is worth it after experincing both filters.

Struck a problem gents - Carshop just emailed me a quote for $42US shipping - that is for one filter! Yes - that is more than the product cost. Still waiting on reply from Ebay sellers.

Not sure how they got to that number (their website says $7.50 to Aust) - I was quoted $33 for the Icebox shipped from Acura of Escondido which is a much larger item. Maybe Carshop aren't the best place to buy it afterall.

If I can't get the K&N for a decent price I may as well just get the Icebox and use the filter that comes with that.

That's one crazy shipping price. How does the icebox work? From what I see on their website, you just remove your resonator, and replace your filter box with theirs. Wouldn't the power gains come from the removal of the resonator and the filter panel instead of the box?

The box is bigger so it holds more air volume - also has an air horn down to the fog light cover to draw in cool air. At least some of the gains are from the removal of the resonator. Not all.

Just checked my OEM air filter last night.... geeeee, lots of leaves got stuck in it, also lots of black powder. Gave it a good clean out with brush and tooth picks.
When I drove the car this morning, could't really tell the difference in performance, but psychologically, I feel better. At least I know my car is not breathing through those rubbish.

I have the K&N panel filter. It's a good replacement for the OEM cos you can wash it. I got a year ago for $165 plus the cleaning kit, which I still haven't used. If you can get it for under $100 AUD delivered then it would be alright. Else, I would look into that ice box thing or a pod filter.

Anyone tried removing the resonator and using the OEM air box? Always wanted to try this but seems like a pain to get it out.

I've done this, it is pretty easy, although it sounds a bit drastic, it is actually very easy to take the front bumper off (just a few bolts and several clips) then there is plenty of acccess to remove the resonator. Should be 30-45 min job first time.

You don't, All the CAI for the Euros in the market were designed to prevent taking in hot engine bay air by routing it to the cavity behind the fog lights, which already is in an area where the air is cooler, if you want to really ram some cold air in, take a look around the front bumper for suitable access and then use flexi insulation tubing to route it to your filter, I doubt it'll help much though...

Ebay sellers are not responding re K&N shipping and Carshop want to screw us on shipping - so going Icebox from Escondido and may upgrade to a different filter later.

    Yeah, I have done this.

Use K&N panel filter in the OEM box & took the resonator out and stuck a pipe towards the fog light area. I have not notices any improvements.

INGEN CAI kit is by far the best from performance point of view.

You may notice more of a difference on a hot day - especially with your pipe extending to the fog area. Well - at least I hope I notice a difference with the icebox which is effectively the same thing but a bigger volume box.
