Most 'street' oils have detergents inside them and help 'clean' the oil. This is not something special to Royal Purple.
Sounds like you don't take your car to the race track, so I wouldn't suggest a 'race' oil (Motul 300V, Red Line Racing Series, Royal Purple XPR, Amsoil Dominator, etc). I would however suggest a good synthetic oil (Motul 8100 X-Cess, Red Line Street Series, Castrol Edge 0W-40, etc) and then change your oil after longer intervals. A good synthetic oil like the Motul 8100 X-Cess should be able to cover 10,000km of non-racing driving. It works out cheaper than an oil change every 5,000kms and does offer better engine protection than cheaper oils.
If you decide not to listen to anyone here, do yourself a favour first and do a search on Royal Purple and 'shearing'.
