    Help with piggyback ECU

I've had a friend recommend the Apexi VAFC neo for my CRX and to be honest I'm not familiar with the way these things work. I've done a fair bit of research on how it's supposed to work and whether it will give me more power or not and I can't find anything conclusive. From what I understand, it will give my ecu a reading different to what's coming in from the MAP sensor in the air intake and then the ecu will feed the engine fuel based on that reading.

I've decided against rebuilding the engine in my CRX and for the moment I only want to tune the car for the mods that I have: (stock air intake inc resonator, 4-2-1 header, 200 cel cat, Fujitsubo Legalis R catback).

Will the Neo be able to give me any gain from the mods that I've done? I understand that a programmable ecu (Hondata s300) would be much better for me but to be honest I can't justify an s300 plus dyno costs to tune breathing mods.

Also, I've heard that messing around with the amount of fuel that the engine burns can potentially overheat the engine and decrease it's life. Any truth to this?

Dont bother on tune. You have not done enough to see a good gain.

S300 be the choice, but I'd do headwork on a Honda before Tune.

    about this...
"I've heard that messing around with the amount of fuel that the engine burns can potentially overheat the engine and decrease it's life."

if your worried about that, don't turn on your engine cos its decreasing its life, and yes its true. Heat is a killer, need to manage it properly.

    No BBK recomendations?

OP a tune is always an option, from the factory the tunes are very safe and there is a margin for improved performance over fuel economy, that being said as Amant said an exhaust and tune won't yield huge gains.
As for heat damaging the engine I belive you are referring to lean mixtures which will shorten engine life but on a factory tune this is no problem and as long as you have someone who isn't a potato tune your car it shouldn't be a problem as again tuners will generally build in a good safety margin.
Heat won't be an issue, just use a good tuner.
Mate my bbk cost more than your Honda.

Looks like all plans are on hold...the S300 is going to cost me $1200 without tuning which I can't afford at the moment.

Just ask Renzo and amant, BBK for the best time. 2 against one.
