Shannons production car racing thing?

Ive watched this on SBS in the past. When ever its on i am keen and love it. The 4 cylinder integras and s2000 burn holdens and fords around the tiwsty circuit to much. Last time i watched s2000 won i think every event.
Its surprising really. V8s vs 4 cylinders.

Shannons joins Australian Production Car Championship



The Production Car Association of Australia (PCAA) is delighted to welcome Shannons on board, as the new naming rights sponsor for the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship.



The category has experienced strong growth in recent years, and features cars from the showroom floor, with minor safety modifications and a Yokohama control tyre, battling it out on the track. After some uncertain times, the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship is looking towards a bright future with the new Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS).



"It's a very exciting time for us all," said Brett McAlister, PCAA President. "With the start of a new era for the Australian Production Car Championship about to begin, we are delighted to welcome Shannons on board.



Across 3 classes, everything from 4 cylinder hatchbacks to V8 Fords and Holden's doing battle on track in the categories unique reverse class handicap format, which produces plenty of overtaking and entertaining racing, as the faster cars bridge the gap on the smaller cars.



In a slight change from recent years, the handicap will now be calculated using times from qualifying and a scratch race on the Saturday afternoon.



"We tried something similar at Mallala last year, and everyone was happy with it, so we decided to make the change," McAlister explained. "It's all about fine tuning the package to keep everyone happy and enhance the entertainment aspects for the spectators."



Shannons Insurance, with currently over 80,000 clients, specialise in tailoring insurance for motoring enthusiasts. Shannons have an ever- increasing background in motorsport, with involvement in a number of vehicles, classes and events at numerous levels in Australian" motoring.



The Shannons Australian Production Car Championship will race with the all new AMRS in 2005, which will include TV coverage on SBS' popular Speedweek program, in addition to coverage on Fox Sports and international TV.



Round 1 of the 2005 season will take place at Wakefield Park, Goulburn, N.S.W, on February 26th and 27th.



"Next weekend at Wakefield will be a big one for us and will be the culmination of all the ground work that's been put in place over the past months, we have to start making it work over the first couple of rounds and give us a solid base for the rest of the season and beyond.



"This year is all about consolidation and building for the next 5 years. We have a good field ready for Wakefield, all of whom are chomping at the bit go racing."

Used to be nations cup I think, had 3-4 different classes.
With V8 vs 4 cyclinders, they have split them into classes.
Classes a to c

I actually went to Eastern Creek 2 weeks ago and watched them (race that was on SBS today) great racing and when in pit lane you can speak to the drivers/team owners and they are top blokes.

To bad they took out the Ferrari's, Lambo, Vipers etc and put them into a different class, it was fun watching smaller V8's hammer the Monaro!

There was nations cup and also the Production Car Championship..... Speedweek on SBS has some great racing, especially the NSW club champs, got the cobra's, elises, porsches, mx5s etc all racing together....

I was at Eastern Creek roughly a month ago.

For $15 bucks I saw:
- Production cars
- Carrera cup
- Formula Ford
- Development series (Konica)
- Classics

They also had other minor things, but it was a terrific day!

Thats the production cars cup or something.
Got a weird name, that 20yr Lebbo kid is doing well in the WRX in that series.

I haven't seen him driving that WRX for a while.
Good on him, he is a brilliant young driver (with a lot of money behind him)

He's in F3 now and struggling to get near the fast guys.

And that was the Performance Car Championship that was on the same weekend as the V8's at EC, not the Prod Car Cahmps. That one is on the same weekends as F3 and the GT Championship (which was Nations Cup).
