17x8 rim on Euro?

I went to tempe tyres yesterday, they told me 8" rims is illegal, they won't fit on Euro

I fitted 19x8 on a euro and no problem at all! so I'm sure 17x8 is not a big deal

Another friend of mine bought a set of 19" rims, he went to a tyre shop to get some tyres and put them on his civic, and they guy went "No way, we are not going to fit those wheels on your civic..they are too BIG and impossible!! ...and he is laughing...
We managed to get tyres somewhere else, and fitted the wheels ourselves with no problem...

I hate those tyres shops...
