    hey all,

    I own a civic vti-r coupe, and per 40 liters, I get 400 kms ...

some people tell me that's way too low and I should be getting close to 500 kms per tank.

I redline here and here and basically enjoy the car. However as a test, once I drove the car like a grandpa for the whole tank (it was a painful experience, but all in the name of science)

anyway I got 450 kms. But no where near 500 km. Is 400-450 ok? or is something wrong here? :x

What fuel do you use and do you normally drive highway or city?

I did a test as well on my car to see my fuel economy, and i drive normally in city traffic.. on 98 octane, i get around 350-400 on my coupe vti. (Thats doin sunday driving style)

Haven't driven highway much, cept when i went to wollongong which was mostly highway and i got 450.

Yeah, it depends on were you drive city or hwy. If you drive a lot on freeways and stuff then you would get more milage out of your fuel but if you stop and start or keep braking and accelerating then you would get less. It can also be how you drive, for example many people when driving to keep their speed, they keep tapping the gas every few seconds or so, that would burn more fuel that way. But people that apply the same amount of pressure on pedal use less fuel. So it really just depends on how you drive so cant really say.
But 400klm for a 1.6L? is it? isnt normal unles you got done up engine and you redline or in Vtec 50% of time. But withought any engine mods, you should be doing around the 420-480klm per tank.

It's a lot of stop-start city style driving. I always have high octane (98 octane) fuel cause my car only drinks that

I dont have any engine mods but I drive the car hard maybe 30-40% of the time (I like VTEC) :P

I am not sure if it still sounds odd or not ... let me know

    well i'm driving a gen 3 crx and i usually get 300-350 out of a tank =)

your car is lighter and i am a lead foot (and loving it)

another thing to take into consideration is that you will have a clost reatio gearbox like me (i assume) and you will spend more time higher in the rev raneg for it, esp on a freeway

ok so it's pretty normal for a guy who ventures into VTEC land pretty regularly ... oh well ... it's better than a commodore (ewww)

Yeah ok well my guess of an opinion is that its not normal. Even if you drive all day stop and start even stupid driver (im sure your not) can get at least 20k's more. But you never know, maybe your Fuel Filter you gota change them around each 40,000klm or so.
I have ITR DC2 and I get on average 440klm on Premium, and around 460klm on Optimax. And thats being in vtec about 30% of time.

I got my fuel filter replaced recently (like less than 5000 kms ago during my last service)

dunno ... so should I be worried?

Does your car suffer in performance? Is there smoke coming out of the back of the car when you drive? is there a ratling sound or a sound that isnt normal? Are there any warning lights on the dash? If you answered NO to all questions then you should NOT be woried but you should get it checked out.
How have you come to the conclusion that something was wrong? was it because you have done more than 400klm previously and now all of the sudden you find your doing a lot less? If so just go to Honda and ask them or go to your mechanic and ask, I really cant help because ive never hear of a problem like this, maybe its not even a problem, maybe its normal and its just because you drive the car each day and you drive a lot.

I think I will discuss it with Robert at Hannys at put my mind at rest once and for all. I am a worrier and I love my car ... so yeah
