    B18C power differences

    Hey
    Does anyone know the power differences between
    B18C - JDM 96 ITR
    B18C - JDM 98 ITR
    B18C7 - AUDM ITR

    I've sort of gotten the diffeences between 98 ITR and AUDM ITR
    But hard to get info on the 96 ITR

    Is the 96 faster than the 98 model??

    The '96 spec (JDM) had the port and polish in the engine done by hand, by the time '98 spec (JDM) came around they did it by machine which did and even better, more accurate job. In 1/4 mile they're virtually identical, but once in 4th gear the '96 spec catches up due to having a lower final drive. The slightly taller ratio of the '98 spec (JDM) was found to be better on the track by being able to hold a given gear for a little longer through some corners. The main changes otherwise for '98 were minor cosmetic, front HID's (JDM), bigger brakes and wheels, different lower rear control arms (which gave easier handling). I think that's most of it.

    If the 96 and 98 are identical in the 1st 3 gears with the 96' spec having a lower final drive, that means the 98' spec should output slightly more power.

    it has smaller cams and smaller exhaust manifold.

    Lower final drive gives better acceleration, but your top speed in the gear is lowered and you have to shift earlier. So in the end it evens out, no change in power. But when comparing in a particular gear without shifting, the one with lower final ratio will accelerate harder.

    Don't you mean higher final drive? The 98 spec ITR has a higher final drive and will accelarate faster than the 96 spec.

    lower final drive ratio = higher numerical value.

    eg 4.4 is "higher" or "taller" than 4.75
