VTC-8OY measure your 17” from top to bottom including the rubber and I’ll measure my stock steely’s including the rubber and w’ll see how far off the rolling diameter is??

Or anyone with 17” and low profile tyres

afaik, no EG's ever came with 15s.. only 14s

only the EK/EJ/EM's that came with 14s and 15s..

therefore the legal limit, taking into account that the 2inch rule is valid, would be 16s for EGs and 17s for EKs

different style rims look different sizes..

for example.. if you buy rims with a lip, visually they could look smaller than the same size rim without a lip..

The NSW RTA guidelines allow for a 15mm increase in rolling diameter for the largest factory option wheel/tyre combo on that vehicle or 15mm decrease on the smallest factory option wheel and tyre combo for that vehicle.

Use this site to check your original wheel/tyre combo Vs the 17's in metric.
    http://miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

I believe that EG's did come with 195/55R15 on the EG shape CRX... If so, that is a 0.3mm increase against 205/40R17's.

If Chief Wiggum hassles you, ask him to explain what the RTA means by this:
    http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...vsi09_rev4.pdf
Better yet, print it out for him to take home and read.

I know of one 'friend', that went to the extent of having a new tyre placard printed up and fitted with a factory 16" tyre option that allowed his 19's to be legal.

HOT TIP: Carry a tyre phamphlet/brochure(preferably your brand) around which shows the factory wheel/tyre combo rolling diameter and the aftermarket combo diameter. I got one a Hankook brochure which clearly shows my 215/35R18 have a 1mm increase on my factory 205/55R15's, no hassles with cops!!

My girlfirend has 17's fitted to her civic, 205/40R17. Factory the ED Civic came with 165/70R13's but I keep a copy of the RTA booklet in her car and most highway patrol tend to get flustered when you keep evidence in the car. It takes the wind outa their sails and they normally just caution you.

My SSS Pulsar has 215/35R18 and they are the same height as factory wheel/tyre combo. Been hassled but always let of once I prove, I am legitimate.

My Nissan X-Trail has 255/35R20(215/70R15 factory) so I am 4.5mm over
